Administration is Related to Meditation

Administration is extremely important in the world because administrators, working at different levels, are responsible for many aspects of the family, society and country. Consequently effective administration depends on the approval and acceptance of society through voting, appointment or natural selection. In all cases, the person must have the qualities accepted by the society.

Meditation relates to administration in the efficiency and quality of the administration. All administrators should possess efficiency and quality in administration of work and create peace and order in the society. Without these qualities, the society can deteriorate. Efficiency and quality come from meditation. A raw diamond has potential high qualities but an uneducated and untrained hand can reduce its beauty and qualities. Conversely, a trained diamond cutter with experience and appropriate tools can turn the stone into a stunning piece that can attain a great price. In the same way, meditation creates mind power, which in turn clears the mind. The clearing of the mind is similar to the cutting of a raw stone with modern tools. Meditation will enable the administrator to attain a clear and concise mind that is of high quality and possesses moral principles. Emotions attached to the mind can cloud the mind and make it overlook important things such as ethics and morality. Mind power can help the administrator see through problems clearly and lead the way to more effective management so that set objectives can be achieved; similar to an expert diamond cutter with high experience.

Once meditation produces enough mind power, consciousness (sati) will be achieved. At this point, consciousness (sati) will strengthen the mind. Administration is tiring because a significant amount of mind power is consumed; therefore, adequate rest and relaxation are required. Meditation provides quality rest-time; therefore, an administrator should study meditation. After studying meditation the administrator should meditate at least 2 or 3 weeks in a one year time period, even when on holiday. He should do this without causing himself discomfort or stress. The rest experience from meditation refreshes and increases mind power. Administrating utilizes a lot of mind power. In the process of solving a problem an administrator may expend all of his natural mind power and then find himself unable to produce more. Such a loss of power finally affects physical and mental health, resulting in damage to the administrator and to his administration abilities. Rest through meditation is an absolute necessity. Administration takes place over a long period of time and if an administrator understands the need for resting the mind and generating mind power through meditation, good opportunities will arise. Meditation is thus accumulation of mind power to enable an administrator to deal with difficult situations.

Administration requires emotion, and the emotion arising needs to be cleansed. Without meditation, the mind cannot be controlled and emotions cannot be cleared. This is similar to using dirty water to wash dirty items, the more you wash, the dirtier the items will become. However, if you use clean water, the items will become cleaner. If you try to clear troubling emotions with confusing emotions, the result will be even greater confusion. However, if you subject the troubling situation to the calmness of mind power, a way to solve the problem will soon present itself. Thus, resting the body and mind with meditation is useful and essential for the administrator. The mind power produced from meditation can be used for problem solving and can be used to clear away the deficiencies of administration.

Basic meditation means a meditative state that can increase mind power (not insight meditation-Vipassana). It is a simple yet effective method already clearly discussed in the Meditation Instructor Course. In reality, the mind is the basis for all administration, as the mind is the source of all activities. The mind is, therefore, the most important factor in all endeavors. Meditation means training of the mind. Administrating comes from the mind - the body simply coordinates the work. The mind is of utmost importance. When the mind of a person does not contain sufficient power, problems in administration arise. The efficiency and quality of the administrator reduce until difficulties and confusion reign. Consequently, one should accumulate mind power within oneself to prepare for all possible situations, which will be the means to administer work with success and with moral principles. This is because meditation increases the mind power to a point where it infiltrates the mind while working to create circumspection and restraint, factors that enhance administration.Sustaining administration by using congenial means and flexibility to create a balance in the community will lead to the achievement of the objective of bringing the most benefits to self as well as to the society. These are the signs of "a skilled administrator." To achieve this, he must have increased his mind power through meditation as taught in the basic course.

Thoughts or all types of mental processes are called emotions. Emotions can be good or bad, wide or narrow, high or low, long or short, past, present or future and can be of countless other forms. Understand that if a person has no emotional interest in administration, he is unable to perform as an administrator. By having such emotional interest he is able to be an effective administrator. Emotion creates many things in the world and also destroys as many things in the world. In conclusion, emotion is a natural part of life from birth to death. It is important that administrators and those interested in becoming administrators adjust their emotions to harmonize with their community and society. When the administrator seeks to adjust his emotions to go along with the administration, he cannot help but use both natural and manifested meditations.

Meditation depends on emotion but selects only one single, good and useful emotion. This single emotion prevents the mind from being scattered and turns it into one-pointedness and then into meditation. Meditation then generates mind power. This is similar to mining for diamonds. If we stand by to watch the mining process, we can see the macro cars digging up tons of soil in order to obtain 1-2 good diamonds. Only the 1-2 diamonds are kept and the rest of the tons of soil and sand are discarded. However, the diamonds are worth millions of dollars, worth every minute spent on achieving the objective. Similarly, many emotions present themselves in the mind, but the intelligent person selects the most precious for use as a result of meditating and developing great mind power. Administrators are praised by society for their intelligence and are often called leaders. It is apparent that meditation is very important for administrators and should be an inseparable part of their lives.

Javanacitta is sagacious intellect. It is intellect that can move along appropriately with the world current and the righteousness current. Those with distinct knowledge, ready with the trained mind, sharp intellect and expertise arising from experience, constitute a crucial part of society in the present and in the future. Intellectual competition forms an integral part of the future so if one can develop one's mind in advance, one will become a clear winner in the race. We can see so many people studying management and administration at present or educating their children in management in order to increase the capacity of their intellect. For these reasons, meditation plays a great role in management studies so that development of sagacious intellect (javanacitta) can increase without end. The speed comes from the mind full of untapped resources that are awaiting discovery. It lies with the administrator to find the appropriate and right meditation method so that efficient intellect for excellence is created.

Therefore, right meditation or sammasamadhi comprises the path to mind power, leading to javanapanna- the wisdom to discover the mysteries of the mind contained within the body. The oneness of emotion distilled through the meditative procedure of right meditation, turns into the oneness of the mind filtered and concentrated into unity; unity creating strength. Thus clearness and cleanness are present, blowing the air of purity into the mind, clearing the mind so that it is bright and sharp. To obtain this state, continuous meditation is required for effective success. This is similar to making sugarcane syrup. One brings in the sugarcane trees to squeeze for juice, then places the juice in a pot and boils it until thick syrup results. The syrup, though minimal in quantity, is so much sweeter than the sugarcane juice. The unity of the mind concentrated through the process of meditation leaves oneness and this oneness possesses untold power and great benefits. Administration requires strength, circumspection, sagacious intellect, and far-reaching insights that can see through all problems. Meditation is the source of all these characteristics.
