Develop Mind Power
Our mind possesses a latent source of power that can be brought forth, developed and reinforced through meditation. The necessity to have sufficient mind power cannot be over emphasized or underestimated, for, without mind power, humanity would feel inadequate and insanity might become prevalent. The reason why almost all of us have remained in a normal state of mind up until now is that we possess sufficient mind power. Likewise, we have enough intellectual capacity to study, to work, and to carry on various kinds of activities. Yet, we neither realize nor understand how and from where we have gained this mind power we are using in our everyday life. We must understand the fact that man is a part of nature that keeps changing according to causes and conditions. It is also a fact that man has to follow the paths of nature such as eating, excreting, resting, and sleeping, etc. Naturally there are both gains and losses of energy, including the power of the mind in nature and by nature itself. Our energy and mind power originate from nature too. We can notice that when we overwork, we will feel tired and hungry. After resting and eating, we can feel the refreshment of the mind and body. But if we do not have time to eat, rest, and sleep sufficiently, what will happen? If such a situation continues over a long period, what effect will it have on us?

We will become worried, tense, preoccupied and may even become mentally distraught and exhausted. Like a leaking fuel tank that keeps running out day after day, it can bring about danger at any moment. If too much mind power is used, the weakened mind will provoke tension. We may become irritable, lack attentiveness and get bored easily. Why? Because our mind power will wane and become weary, and be unable to clarify our emotions anymore. Consequently, we turn to numerous kinds of activities; some travel abroad or to the countryside for recreation; many prefer discotheques and nightclubs; others turn to drugs or narcotics. Especially now that the population has increased enormously, everybody must struggle for survival by any means - positive or negative, right or wrong, they do not care. It is evident that all kinds of competition have emerged in today's world. People do not have as much time to rest and sleep as before.

Consequently, the practice of meditation or deep concentration has taken on an important role in improving such situations. Meditation helps vitalize the energy or the power of the mind so that man can actually build up from what already exists in nature. There are four primary elements in nature: the solid element or earth; the fluid element or water; the heat element or fire; and the air element or wind - all four are combined in our body. Meditation practice is the means of building up the mind power and making it more useful and efficient. Like various kinds of natural resources that can be found everywhere in nature, man has been able to make the most of them for the benefit of the world population, such as electricity, piped water, cars, motor-boats, airplanes, rockets, telephones, televisions, electric fans, air-conditioners, computers, internet communications, etc. These are the outcome of the intellectual capacity of a humankind that possesses high powers of the mind; otherwise, humankind would not have been able to invent all these things.
Knowing that meditation gives us an immense advantage, we should practice and build up meditation in every posture. If we do practice and build up our concentration, our mind power will undoubtedly increase; but the amount of increase will depend upon one's knowledge and understanding, due to cause and consequence both theoretically and practically. Each of us must have sufficient mind power to be able to endure many hardships and to have enough intelligence to carry on our work and activities. If we use only natural energy or mind power gained from resting and sleeping, it may be insufficient. We must build up more mind power. Meditation practice is an effective means of building up more power of the mind. Meditate at least 5 minutes at a time and 3 times per day: 5 minutes in the morning, 5 minutes at noon, and another 5 minutes in the evening. Practice like this every day. Each day you will gain 15 minutes of meditation practice. In one month it will come to 450 minutes or 7 hours and a half. In one year, it will accumulate up to 5,400 minutes or 90 hours. This can help supply sufficient power to the mind for most of us.
If we do not build up more power, our mind power will gradually decrease. The less mind training we do, the less mind power we retain. We will have problems in controlling our own mind and finally we will not be able to control it at all. The more people become the victims of such problems, the more they will be on pins and needles. Why? Because they will have lost too much mind power with all their activities during the daytime and nighttime. Now we have globalization, with boundless communication. Telephones and television stations operate 24 hours a day. Wherever we are, we can still communicate with others. This is one reason why we have less time to rest and sleep.Accordingly, our mind power will keep running down. Now, then, since we have learned about this fact, we should not let our mind power run down too much; otherwise, we might become tense, manic-depressive or scatter-minded. Hence we have to practice meditation to reinforce our mind power. Make meditating as easy as turning the switch of the television or cellular phone on and off. Make meditating as easy as if you are charging the batteries or filling the fuel tank anywhere and anytime you wish.
Have meditation assimilate with life in the modern age. An age in which everybody is so busy, i.e. a " high tech meditation " which can be practiced anywhere and any time; and can even be developed to overcome the age of globalization itself. Let's say it is the " practice of meditation in every breath " and let's see whether our mind power runs out. No matter how busy we are or how much work we have to finish, always practice meditation so that we can accomplish our tasks with efficiency and effectiveness. Surely we can overcome anything. If we always practice meditation, we will constantly have a sufficient supply of mind power.
